About The Bista Family

The Bista family migrated to Bhutan in the 1800s and had lived for several generation in the south of the county, owning land and considered citizens.

They have a professional background and are well educated. Dilli Ram Bista was a teacher and Man Maya a midwife.

They were exiled in 1992, when Prasanth was 3yrs and Tapasya 1 year old. They have lived in a refugee camp in eastern Nepal for 16 years, unable to work or own land, a citizen of no country.

Dilli Ram, volunteered as a teacher at Druk Model School, in the Khudanabari, camp.

Man Maya

Man Maya was heavily involving in the family's existence - cooking and washing and handcrafts.

Prasanth

Prasanth, now 19, has been studying for a BBS in Katmandu.

Tapasya

Tapasya is 16. She completed Year 10 in the camp school in March this year. She then went to a collage in the nearby city of Birtamod to study in Year 11 and for additional computer studies.
