We have found a lot of problems in getting suitable employment for these people. They come to this country with a little English but no work experience and there is no recognition of their academic qualifications.
In Bhutan 90% of the population is rural and self sustaining. Some of the families coming are used to working on farms, growing vegetables and tending goats.
Thise who are used to working professionally they find they cannot keep up with the pace expected of menial jobs here and although they have some English they still have trouble with understanding our accent and being understood, especially on the telephone.
Something that would assist them a lot is practising their pronunciation by engaging in casual conversation. We have a few people who have volunteered to visit a family on a regular basis and this is proving very worthwhile.
They are loyal and willing workers if given the opportunity and they want to be able to provide for themselves and their families after accepting charity for years.
