The Bhutanese who have lived in the Refugee Camps in remote rural areas of SE Nepal have survived entirely on International aid. Although living a subsistence existence they have been 'protected' from the realities of modern life and will need considerable rehabilitation. However those who have survived this ordeal are strong and courageous and determined to provide a better life for their children. They want to be self supporting, they want to assimilate.

These people come with refugee status, but are no longer refugees in Australia. They come as new migrants with Permanent Resident status. As new settlers they have many things to learn about our culture and way of life.
If anyone local who speaks Nepali would be willing to assist them please let me know.
There are many practical ways you can help these people to assimilate into our community and feel welcome here.
